WHY WE BELIEVE THE BIBLE

INTRODUCTION

Bible is here now — can be traced back, and back, to the first century A.D. Christ and the apostles read and quoted Old Testament. From whence came this wonderful book. It is here - - did not write itself.
Who wrote it? Satan would not if he could and could have written it if he would.

Bible claims to have been written by inspiration of
God.   2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:20, 21; 2 Sam. 23:2; Acts 1:16.

Its fruit good - - the tree is good. Matt. 7:16, 20.
Those who prove and test it find it good and acceptable. Rom. 12:1, 2.

Infidels did not write the Bible. Would not and could not. Psa. 14:1; Rev. 21:8; 1 Tim. 5:8.

Deceivers did not write the Bible, nor men deceived.
Would not and could not.    Its writers wrote prophecies of the future as accurately as historians record the past.   About forty men wrote it over a period of some 1500 years; yet when put together, their writings make a complete and harmonious book.

I. CHRIST ENDORSED THE OLD TESTAMENT.

Jón. 5:45-47. Christ here endorsed Moses' writings. Christ endorsed the record of creation. Matt. 19:3-9; Gen. 3:20. He endorsed the story of Noah and the Flood. Matt. 24:37-39. He endorsed the story of Lot's wife. Lk. 17:32; Gen. 19. He endorsed the story of Jonah and the whale. Matt. 12:39-43; Jonah 1-4.

Christ came to fulfill the prophecies. The prophets wrote the life of Christ beforehand. Matt. 5:17, 18;26:53-56; Lk. 24:44-47.

Christ and the apostles believed and accepted the Old Testament as from God. Acts 1:16; 28:25; 2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:20, 21.

II. ITS SCIENTIFIC ACCURACY.

The Bible is not a book on science and yet its statements are scientifically accurate. Gen. 1:1. Here God mentions everything: Time, force, action, space, and matter. "Without form and void."

Bible teaches — is a universe of worlds.   Heb. 1: l-3; 11:3.

Bible teaches about the empty place at the north. Job. 26:7.

The Bible teaches the fact of gravity. Job. 26 :7; Heb.1: l-3.

Was ahead of date by teaching the truth that the world is round. Isa. 40:22; Lk. 17:30-36. Be day on one side earth, and night on other, at same time.

That the earth turns as clay to the seal. Job. 38:12-14.

That all men and nations made of same blood. Acts 17:26; 1 Cor. 15:45; Gen. 3:20.

III. PROPHECIES OF THE BIBLE ALWAYS TRUE.

2 Pet. 1:20, 21; Gal. 3:8.   Scriptures could foresee the future.

God would make a great nation of Abraham's seed. Gen. 12:1-3; Gal. 3:16.

Num. 23:9. Jews would always dwell alone. Still separate today.

Josh. 6:26; 1 Kings 16:34. Jericho rebuilt 500 years later, with the loss of oldest and youngest sons as predicted.

1 Kings 13:1-10, 32.   Fulfilled 300 years later. 2 Kings 23:15, 16.

Prophecies of Christ. Gal. 3:8; Gen. 3:15; Isa. 9: 6, 7; Micah 5:2.

Apostasy of the church foretold. 2 Thess. 2:1-7; 2 Tim. 4:2, 3.

Our age of scoffers foretold. 2 Pet. 3:1-16. Present age of wickedness foretold. 2 Tim, 3: l-8.
